Our Founder

Sharad Kumar Vats

Sharad adored competing for India in cricket as a youngster. He grew up in New Delhi where he was born. He was a competitive outdoor athlete who excelled in any activity he tried. He shifted his concentration to studying hotel management in order to further his professional career while his contemporaries concentrated on preparing for engineering and medical entrance exams. After earning his degree, he was selected by the Taj Group of Hotels, the biggest hotel company in Asia (a TATA Group Enterprise). After being elected Employee of the Year, he got various awards at the start of his first year of employment with the Taj Group.

Soon after, he met Mr. Divya Bhanu Sinh Chavda, his “Super Boss,” a renowned wildlife expert and author of numerous books on Indian wildlife. Her encounters and conversations with him during the subsequent years inspired Sharad to travel to many national parks.
Between 1990 and 1999, Sharad traversed all of India, travelling through the Bandhavgarh, Corbett, Dudhwa, Kanha, Bharatpur, and Sariska jungles. He saw his first tiger in 1990 when he was just 22 years old, but he had no idea that this one experience would lead him into a world where the forests were the only thing that mattered. Even though he continued to work, Sharad aligned himself with the objective of living in India’s jungle and protecting the Tiger in the business world.

With a renewed feeling of purpose, he quit the hotels and started his own company, Nature Safari India Pvt Ltd, with the slogan “Conservation via Tourism.” As he travelled further, he developed and enhanced his skills as a wildlife photographer. The encounter between a tiger and two elephants that he captured on camera in 2014 was an amazing natural history moment. His tenacity and commitment in this endeavour have made him famous on a global basis.

“Autobiography of a Yogi,” “Bhagwat Gita,” “Jobs,” and “Built to Last” are some of his all-time favourites. He enjoys reading a lot. People like Paramahansa Yogananda, Mahatma Gandhi, Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, and Jack Welch had a significant impact on him.

After honing his love of animals and his passion for imparting practical management skills, Sharad wrote a book named “The Tiger CEO.” He says, “The tiger is an enigma that attracts us all. I felt obligated to offer my firsthand observations and assessments of the key tiger features that not only make the cat an extraordinary leader but also an apex predator despite the abundance of coffee-table books on tigers produced by a range of experts.

I regularly found myself drawing inspiration from the tiger because I think that at this time, strong leadership is required to lead us through the difficulties we are currently experiencing. From Chattrapati Shivaji to Elon Musk, I have identified traits of the feline in leaders throughout history who have excelled in a variety of fields, and I have shared these traits with you in the book. I wish you would be inspired to learn these priceless teachings from the king of the jungle after reading this book.
For those of you outside of India, The Tiger CEO is available on a number of foreign websites, including Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, iBooks, Google Play Store, and NotionPress!

Our Founder

Initially, Nature Safari India had a distinct idea of what Indian tourism should be. It centred on the concept of conservation and gave rise to the saying, “Conservation via Tourism.” The creator of Nature Safari India, Sharad Vats, first saw a tiger in 1990. At the time, he was only 23 years old, but little did he realise that just one sighting would transport him to a world where forests were the only thing that counted.

2005 forced us to rethink our ideas. Our goal was to raise awareness of lesser-known National Parks so that residents may profit from the growth of tourism. Small-scale lodges were gradually freed from their employment issues while the neighbourhood benefited. Thus, BBC Travel recognised Nature Safari India as one of the top Indian wildlife tour operators.

But for Nature Safari, 2006 marked a turning moment. We took on the challenge of building an environmentally sustainable resort, and Chitvan Jungle Lodge is the result. Chitvan was the first resort in India to establish a kitchen garden, spread over 14 acres of arable ground and bordered by the verdant Kanha National Park. We soon received TOFT (Travel Operator for Tigers) certification for minimising our carbon and water footprint.

Continuing the heritage of Chitvan, Nature Safari India established relationships with two non-profit groups, one of which being the renowned Waste Warriors in Corbett National Park. Giving back to the environment has always been a priority for us. Additionally, we continue to make an effort to educate a less fortunate child for each person that books a safari with us.

Your fantasy vacation with Nature Safari India becomes a reality thanks to our team’s tireless efforts. We ensure that your customised itinerary is nothing short of a dream since integrity and commitment run through our veins. We are pleased to report that during the past 20 years, our Guest Loyalty Index has multiplied. All of this and more is possible because of our team’s tireless efforts every day.

Our Logo

The rings in a tree’s bark or the chakras in a person both represent the value of life. The one thing that maintains the entire forest ecosystem in balance also keeps us balanced. The radiating centre illustrates how life thrives the most in a forest’s core zone, while the concentric rings on a tree’s bark represent the forest. At Nature Safari India, we place a strong emphasis on nature as well as animals. We interpret these scars as a reminder of the years and decades it took for our ecosystem to fully develop and bequeath to us this world, its life, and its seasons. Even our life chakras are incomplete without the rings.

Our Motto

A journey from “Conservation through Tourism” to “We Serve, We Conserve”.

Our organization’s original motto was “Conservation Through Tourism.” We invented this idea and saw to its widespread application. This motto was realised when visitors to the national parks grew, creating jobs and boosting the local economy. The moment has come for us to change our mission statement to “We Serve, We Conserve.”

We are in the business of providing for and exceeding the needs of our customers. We now have a sizable base of returning and referred customers as a result of this. In addition, we like to preserve the natural environment and the neighbourhood. Children need a quality education, a better standard of living, and support for one’s capacity to bring out the best in others.

All our principles and practices revolve around this motto. It is our core ideology to put profits after people and products. A delighted guest, and a smiling child studying in a village school brings us more joy than anything else.

We did 5 days of safaris with Sharad Vats's team, in Kanga and Pench, in April 2022. Right from the planning to the actual execution, Sharad was accessible, knowledgeable and helpful, to ensure we got a good experience. Not only was the itinerary planned and tweaked multiple times to suit us, but our accommodation and food needs were also taken care of well...

As a little kid I'd always dreamt of taking a tiger safari in India, but never imagined how life changing it could be. When my wife and I began planning our trip there were so many unknowns. I honestly didn't even know...
